The Inaugural Hagen 54

Hagen54 2025– A Historic Celebration of Links Golf

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who played a part in the inaugural Hagen54 - from those who participated, volunteered, caddied, to those who purchased merchandise and supported the event.

This unique celebration retraced the legendary 54-hole journey of Walter Hagen and Jim Barnes in 1920, starting with 11 holes at Royal Cinque Ports, followed by 10 holes at Royal St George’s, and concluding with a full 18 at Prince’s before finishing the remaining holes back across the other two courses. A true once-in-a-lifetime experience, the day captured the spirit and challenge of links golf.

Festivities began with a welcome evening at Royal Cinque Ports on 23rd July, where guests enjoyed food, drinks, and a chance to explore vintage hickory clubs and memorabilia, including the Walter Hagen storybook. Each participant received a commemorative goody bag featuring a Hagen54 polo shirt, driver headcover, course book, scorecard, pin badge and more. James Leah, General Manager of Royal Cinque Ports, opened the evening with a warm welcome before players tested hickory clubs on the range.

At 5:40am, 170 players teed off across all three Championship courses in a shotgun start, following the exact path walked by Hagen and Barnes over a century ago. Despite experiencing every season in one day - from sunrise to gale-force winds - spirits remained high. Hydration stops, smooth transitions between courses, and smiling faces at the finish line summed up an unforgettable day.

The event concluded back at Royal Cinque Ports with a closing buffet and plenty of stories shared among players.
